GOP Sweep Marple Newtown School Board Race

Five republican candidates for the Marple Newtown School District race take all five seats on the school board.

Eight candidates–five republicans, three democrats–vied for five seats on Marple Newtown School District's School Board of Directors on Tuesday's election. The five republicants, which included incumbents Richard Sokorai and Fred Dewey along with newcomers Jamie Mariano, Sherry-Lee McAuliffe and Robert Sack, took the win for the five, four-year term seats on the School Board. Marple Township Republican Committee Chairman Pat Larkin addressed the endorsed candidates on election night with a congratulatory speech. "We banded together like we always do," said Larkin. Eight candidates are vying for five, four-year term seats on the Marple Newtown School Board in Nov. 8th's election. A Few Newcomers Lead School Board Primaries With Highest Votes

There were 3,114 unofficial votes counted towards newcomer Jamie Mariano and 2,923 votes for Sherry-Lee McAuliffe in the Marple Newtown School Board primary elections May 17.

A few newcomers led the Marple Newtown School Board primary elections with the highest votes on May 17. There were eight candidates who filed for five, four-year seats on the board. Though each candidate cross-filed in Tuesday's primary elections, five were put up by the Republican Committee–Jamie Mariano, Sherry-Lee McAuliffe, Fred Dewey, Richard Sokorai and Robert Sack–while the democrats put their own candidates on the ballot which included Genevieve Fox, Hector Lopez and Matthew Stepanic. Mariano, a republican candidate, came out on top in the primary school board elections Tuesday with a strong 3,114 (2,668 republican votes, 446 democrat votes) total votes counted towards her. Patch went around snapping shots of the primary and school board elections May 17 around Marple and Newtown communities.

Patch went around the Marple Newtown community on a dreary Tuesday snapping photos at several polling sites around Marple and Newtown townships during the primary and school board elections. From the municipal building to St. Alban's Church, Newtown contender Edward Partridge's supporters were seen stationed at each polling site around the township but Board of Supervisors Vice Chairwoman Linda Houldin also had several committee people stationed at each site. It was a somewhat "steady" voter turn-out in the township, according to Republican Committeewoman Cheryl Stank, who was stationed at the Newtown Public Library, in support of Houldin. Two contested races are happening in the elections on May 17–Marple Newtown School Board and the Newtown GOP primaries.

Whether you're a registered Democrat or Republican, there are a few contested races in the Marple Newtown community Tuesday. Patch brings you a recap on what you need to know for the May 17 elections before you vote. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. in both townships.
