Episcopal Academy student-athletes Alana Dumas, Kali Kilmer, and Matt Rushton recently committed to play at Division I colleges for field hockey and football.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Three Episcopal Academy student-athletes—Alana Dumas, Kali Kilmer, and Matt Rushton—officially made college destinations known on Feb. 6, bringing the total number of Division I commitments in this year’s EA senior class to 24. Dumas and Kilmer, both senior forwards, signed national letters to attend the University of Michigan and Providence College, respectively. Dumas and Kilmer were key performers for the 2012 Episcopal Academy field hockey team that finished with a 23-2 record, defeated its archrival Notre Dame in the PAISSA state tournament championship game, and was ranked No. 7 in the nation according to the top-of-the-circle blog. Eleven Episcopal Academy students have announced their commitment to continue to play their sports at various Ivy League schools.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Eleven Episcopal Academy student-athletes formally announced their intentions to continue their academic and athletic careers at Ivy League institutions next fall. “The Ivy League is made up of some of the world’s top academic universities and recruits the nation's best and brightest students, so to have 11 of our student-athletes accept Ivy League offers is a testament to those students, their families, and the tremendous education they have received at The Episcopal Academy,” says Hamilton Clark, the Greville Haslam Head of School. Bradley Wiseman, of Newtown Square, recently receives Award at Gettysburg College's Fall Honors Day
Gettysburg College has a long tradition of recognizing students for outstanding scholarship and achievement. Awards, made possible by the generous gifts of alumni and friends, were presented at a Fall Honors Program on October 26, 2012. More than 40 named awards were presented to students who were selected on the basis of their academic achievement and service to the campus community. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Episcopal Academy’s spring sports season was filled with a number of exciting moments that demonstrated the talents of the school's student-athletes. School records were broken, rivals beaten, and titles won. This year, both the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams are represented by a number of All-American and Academic All-American athletes. U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans are some of the best players in the United States. For the boys, seniors Jon Garino, Tyler Odell, and Morgan Westby were named 2012 U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans while senior Sam Lawlor was named to the Academic All-American team. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Marple Newtown High School seniors Maddie Baxter and Brian Landi were recognized recengly recognized at a dinner reception with Rep. Pat Meehan at Neumann University for receiving the 2012 Congressional Scholar Athlete Award. One male and one female student from each high school, within Meehan's district, were chosen for the award. Both Baxter and Landi were representatives for Marple Newtown.

BROOMALL–Paxon Hollow Middle School recently held a sports awards breakfast to recognize the effort of all their fall student athletes that participated this season. Eighth-grade students were selected by their coaches as nominees to the Tiger's Lair as they best represented the six pillars of character: integrity, respect, sportsmanship, hard work, responsibility, and citizenship. The eighth-grade boys soccer team went undefeated this year and was recognized for their accomplishment.

34 area high school seniors were honored for their achievements on the field and in the classroom.
ASTON–On Wednesday evening at Neuman University in Aston, U.S. Representative Pat Meehan (R-7) and former Flyers great Bob Kelly honored 34 high school seniors from across the district for their excellence on the field and in the classroom on behalf of the Congressional Scholar-Athlete Program. The program, in its 16th year locally, invited each high school in Meehan's Seventh Congressional District to nominate a senior boy and girl who have made extraordinary academic and athletic contributions. A total of 19 schools participated.
