MNSD Superintendent Responds to Sandy Hook Shooting

Merle Horowtiz, Marple Newtown superintendent of schools, offers condolences to the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, and reminds Marple Newtown parents of the district's security and services offered.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–In the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT, Marple Newtown Superintendent of Schools Merle Horowitz offered the following statement to families and staff in Marple Newtown: Our thoughts and prayers are with those families and educators who were involved in the terrible tragedy that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. We mourn with the rest of the nation for the victims who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  In light of the tragedy there, I would like to share important information with our parents, guardians and community. Marple Newtown Superintendent Merle Horowitz Named President of PASA Women’s Caucus

Marple Newtown Superintendent Merle Horowitz was recently named president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators Women’s Caucus.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Women's Caucus is a state organization affiliated with PASA (Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators); its purpose is to improve the status, rights, and opportunities for women in educational leadership. Merle Horowitz, superintendent of the Marple Newtown School District, has been an educator for 38 years and an administrator for 25 years in Delaware County school districts and is currently the chair of the Chief School Administrators in Delaware County. Horowitz has been the Delaware County representative to the PASA Board of Governors for over two years. Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Catholic Schools Superintendent Resigns

PHILADELPHIA–Following a year of great transition for Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Catholic schools, superintendent Mary E. Rochford announced her resignation at year's end. "It has been my privilege to serve in the ministry of Catholic education for almost 40 years. A long time ago, when I was very young, a wise woman religious told me, 'Remember, you are only a useless servant.'  I have kept that in mind and worked as diligently as I could for the sake of the children and now I leave for the sake of my family," she said in a statement released by the archdiocese. The archdiocese accepted her resignation with "great reluctance," and said her decision was made in order to devote time to providing physical care for members of her family …
