NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Dec. 14 at approximately 9:10 p.m., Newtown police received a phone call from an off-duty officer who told police that he received a tip that there was an underage drinking party in progress at a home on the 3400 block of Horton Road. Police responded to the home as identified and observed several vehicles in front of the home, including several vehicles with Marple Newtown High School parking permits hanging from their rear view mirrors. According to the report, police could see into the first floor of the home though a front window and did not observe any activity. NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Sept. 13 at approximately 2:10 p.m., Newtown police responded to the 500 block of First Avenue for a reported burglary in process. The bed-ridden homeowner reported that someone was trying to enter his home home through the front door, according to the report. Upon arrival, police observed a young female running around the front yard of the home next door to the complainant's home, according to the report. Police were able to detain the woman. While speaking to the woman, police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the woman, as she identified herself as a resident of the home next to the bedridden homeowner. Newtown Township Police Department reported two recent incidents involving underage drinking around the township.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–On June 2 at approximately 1 a.m., Newtown police was stopped at a traffic light on N. Newtown Street Rd./Rt. 252 and Goshen Rd., facing northbound when they observed a black BMW traveling east on Goshen Rd. making a left turn onto Rt. 252. According to the incident report, when the vehicle made the left turn, it turned into the southbound travel lanes rather than the northbound travel lanes. Police activated their emergency lights to pull the vehicle over, but the BMW was traveling at a very high rate of speed, according to the report, north on Rt. 252. OCEAN VIEW, NJ–The Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) partnered in a multi-agency crackdown on underage drinkers in Cape May County during the Memorial Day Weekend that resulted in 11 arrests, including two for driving while intoxicated (DWI). On May 25, ABC and New Jersey State Police detectives conducted an underage drinking enforcement detail at Gleeson’s Liquors in Dennis Township. The two agencies monitored the liquor store from the parking lot and watched as six individuals between the ages of 18-20 walked into Gleeson’s and purchased or stole alcohol. ARDMORE–Lower Merion Township Police issued a summons on Aug. 22 to Shawn Heard, 18, of Newtown Square, for an incident involving underage drinking and a DUI arrest in July in Bryn Mawr. Lower Merion police officer David Herbst arrested Heard on July 7 around 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of County Line Road and Bryn Mawr Avenue. Heard had a blood alcohol content of .15. He was arrested and charged on five counts–DUI: Gen Imp/Inc of Driving Safety (first offense); DUI: High Rate of Alcohol, BAC of .10-.16 (first offense); Purchase, etc. of Alcoholic Beverage(s) by a Minor; Duties at Stop Sign; and Failure to Yield at Yield Sign. BRYN MAWR–Lower Merion police said they pulled over a car at about 1:18 a.m. July 7 at the intersection of Bryn Mawr Avenue and County Line Road because it had its high beams on and was speeding. When speaking with the driver, police said the officer could smell alcohol coming from the car, and everyone in the car was younger than 21. Police said the driver, Shawn Heard, 18, of the unit block of Rockwood Road in Newtown Square, had a blood alcohol content of .15 and was charged with driving under the influence.
