Newtown's Ambulance Contract With Riddle Moves Forward

Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously voted, 3-0, March 26th, to move forward with the agreement between the township and Riddle Memorial Hospital for the ambulance services contract.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The ambulance services contract that Newtown Township has been working on with their current ambulance services provider, Riddle Memorial Hospital, is "ready to be executed," updated Supervisors Chairman Joseph Catania to the public at a meeting on Monday night. The supervisors entered into a three-year tentative agreement with Riddle in February with a few minor changes to be made on language since then. According to Catania, Riddle has significantly reduced their costs to the township from $60,000 per month to $54,000 per month, or approximately $655,000 in total. Newtown Resident Stands Up For In-House Ambulance Services

Eric Fedor, of Newtown Square, approached the Board of Supervisors during Monday night's public meeting to readdress the idea of utilizing Newtown Square Fire Co.'s proposal for in-house ambulance services.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–During Monday night's Newtown Township supervisors meeting, a member from the audience addressed the board with his concerns in regards to choosing the "right" ambulance services provider for the township. Though a member of the Paoli Fire Co. and Newtown Square Fire Co., Eric Fedor, of Rhoads Avenue, stated that he came before the board strictly as a resident and member of the community in town. "I'm speaking for the volunteer fire service more than anything," stated Fedor before the board. Newtown to Enter Into Tentative Agreement With Riddle for Ambulance Services

Newtown Township will be finalizing a tentative agreement with Riddle Hospital for their ambulance services to the township.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors announced an update on the status of the township's ambulance services contract at a supervisors meeting on Feb. 13. According to Supervisors Chairman Joe Catania, Riddle Hospital–the township's current ambulance services provider–has agreed to reduce their rates in the proposed three-year contract with the township, if the township were to renew their contract with them. Supervisors Vice Chairman Dr. Ross Lambert stated Riddle has already reduced their rates twice with the contract. Catania said the township currently pays Riddle approximately $59,000 per month for their services, in which the rate would be reduced to approximately $53,000-$54,000 per month. Newtown Square Fire Co. Looking to Bring Back In-House Ambulance Service

The fire company is one of three bidders contending for the township's ambulance services contract.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–With Newtown Township's ambulance services contract up in June 2012, several bidders are vying to take over the contract from the current provider, including the township's own fire company. The township's current ambulance service provider is with Riddle Hospital, but the Newtown Square Fire Co. is looking to bring back the service in-house with them. "We're definitely interested," said Fire Chief Doug Simpson about bidding for the contract. "We want to bring it back to a community-based system." According to Simpson, the fire company has provided ambulance services for the township dating back to 40-50 years. The information in your article from Mike Trio about the current budget saving $258,000 is very misleading, I think. What does his quote mean?
