Community College To Be 100% Tobacco-Free

Delaware County Community College will implement a new tobacco-free policy starting July 1, 2013.

Students and staff at Delaware County Community College will be able to breathe easy starting this summer. The college will implement a new tobacco-free policy starting July 1.  The policy will help "create a healthy and sustainable environment for the entire College community by becoming 100 percent tobacco free," according to the school's policy. According to the school, the use of tobacco products (including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes and any other tobacco products) will be prohibited from the following locations: For more information about the policy, visit DCCC's website here.

DCCC Students Recognized By National Honor Society

Delaware County Community College students were recognized for their academic achievements and volunteerism in the community recently.

Three Delaware County Community College students were recognized recently by the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society of two-year colleges and the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges for their academic achievements and their volunteerism in the community. The three students were among 45 scholars from Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges to be honored at the Commission’s annual banquet held at the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel. The scholars also were named to the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, which requires students to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA and be eligible to graduate with an associate’s degree.   This press release was provided by Delaware County Community College.

Summer, Fall Class Registrations Open at DCCC

Delaware County Community College is currently enrolling for summer and fall classes.

Open registration is currently taking place at Delaware County Community College for summer and fall courses. Registration began on March 25 and will end on May 2 for Summer 1 Courses, which last from May 28 to July 3. From March 25 to July 3, students can enroll in Summer 2 Courses which last from July 8 to Aug. 15. And fall classes begin Sept. 3 and last until Dec. 13. Registration also began on March 25.  To register for classes, visit the college's website here.

Lower Merion Police Officer, DCCC Alum Found Dead

Sean Quinn, 46, died Monday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Philadelphia's FDR Park, Lower Merion Township police said.

PHILADELPHIA–Lower Merion police officer and Delaware County Community College graduate Sean Quinn was found dead Monday morning in South Philadelphia as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to LMPD Superintendent Michael McGrath. Earlier Monday, Lower Merion police had alerted other regional law enforcement authorities to Quinn's disappearance, giving a description of him. Quinn, a Delaware County resident, was a D.A.R.E. officer and was once honored at a Philadelphia 76ers game as a "Hometown Hero". In the Lower Merion Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #28, Quinn was a member of the Memorial committee. Gradyville Rd. Residents Seek Help Against DCCC

Gradyville Road residents urged the Marple Township Board of Commissioners to get involved in an issue with the Delaware County Community College at a meeting on Nov. 13.

BROOMALL–More than a dozen Gradyville Road residents showed up at Tuesday's Marple Township Board of Commissioners meeting ready to speak out about an ongoing issue with their neighborhood and the Delaware County Community College. According to Monica Dioguardi, a resident on the 2800 block of Gradyville Road, the main issues with the community college involve the noise, look, and safety that the college has intruded onto its neighbors. 2011 Crime Stats For Delaware County Community College

Delaware County Community College publishes their most recent annual Campus Security Report.

MEDIA–Delaware County Community College (DCCC), located in Marple Township, recently released their crime statistics for 2011. The college publishes their yearly crime statistics annually. The Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act, enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990 (Act 20 U.S.C. 1092), requires each institution of higher education to prepare, publish and distribute to all students and employees an annual security report by October 1 of each year, according to the college. Overall, the crime statistics for Part 1 Offenses in 2011 have decreased since 2010.
