Last Chance: Marple Hero Scholarship Fund Flea Market Sunday

The Marple Township Hero Scholarship Fund will hold its 38th annual flea market on Sunday, Sept. 16.

BROOMALL–The Marple Township Hero Scholarship Fund is sponsoring its 38th Annual Flea Market, Sunday, Sept. 16 at Delaware County Community College off of Rt. 252/Newtown Street Road and Media Line Road in Marple Township. The Marple Hero Scholarship Fund was established in 1968 to aid in the education of children, spouses, and partners of the any member of the Marple Township Police Department, Broomall Fire Co., Marple Township Ambulance Corps, and Woman's Auxiliary of the Broomall Fire Co., in the event of the death or permanent disability while in the line of duty. All proceeds of the flea market will benefit families of those emergency personnel killed or permanently injured in the line of duty.  The flea market is open from 9 a.m. to…

West Comeback Bid Falls Short in Hero Bowl

CHESTER–The scene at Widener University Thursday night was a madhouse—and deservedly so. Fans from all over descended upon Leslie C. Quick Stadium to watch the finest senior football players from the area compete in the 36th Annual Hero Bowl. The players were divided into two teams: the East, composed of players from the Delaware Valley and Catholic leagues, and the West, with players from the Central and Inter-Ac leagues. Many of the players will go on to play at the college level, but the Hero Bowl serves as the last chance for these talented players to strap on their high school team helmets. 7 Local Students To Participate in Annual Hero Bowl

All TD Bank branches in Delaware County are currently selling tickets for the annual Hero Bowl on May 31 at Widener University.

Tickets for the annual Delaware County Hero Bowl which will pit the best high school senior gridiron stars against each other on Thursday night, May 31, at Widener University in Chester, continue to be sold for $5 each at all TD Bank branches in Delaware County. The bank is selling tickets at all teller's windows during normal business hours, providing countywide outlets for the tickets prior to the Hero Bowl, said County Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle in  a press release. There are two TD Bank locations in the Marple Newtown area–one off of Sproul Rd. in Broomall and another off of Winding Way in Newtown Square. 'Hero Day' Proclaimed In Honor of Annual Hero Bowl

This year's Hero Bowl will take place on May 31 at Widener University.

MEDIA–A resolution declaring May 31st to be Hero Day–when the annual Hero Bowl all-star high school football game will be played, was presented by Delaware County Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle to County Detective Robert T. Lythgoe (left), chairman of the 2012 Hero Bowl and president of the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund. The game, which pits the best Delaware County high school seniors in a benefit game for the Hero Scholarship Fund, will begin at 7.30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Widener University in Chester. Admission is $5 with tickets available at all TD Bank branches–there are two branches in the Marple Newtown area, one in Broomall and another in Newtown Square–in the county as well as at the gate the night of the game. …

Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund Receives More Than $30,000

Two separate checks, $29,186 and $2,000, were presented to benefit the county's Hero Scholarship Fund.

MEDIA–Hero Bowl Chairman Robert T. Lythgoe, who also serves as President of the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund, presented $29,186, the proceeds from the 2011 Hero Bowl, at the Oct. 18 meeting of Delaware County Council which was accepted on behalf of the Hero Scholarship Fund by Councilman Thomas J. McGarrigle. Ralph Brown, Delaware County external affairs manager for PECO, accompanied Lythgoe to the meeting to present a separate donation of $2,000 to the Hero Fund from PECO. Joining them for the presentations were Councilman Mario J. Civera Jr., Council Chairman, Jack Whelan and Councilman Andy Lewis. Fans not only came out to watch some football at the 35th annual Hero Bowl on June 2 but also to benefit a good cause, the Hero Scholarship Fund.
