The following items were recently stolen from local businesses and schools.
BROOMALL–On Feb. 14 at approximately 11 a.m., Marple police received a call from an employee at JoAnn Fabrics for a reported stolen sewing machine. According to the report, the sewing machine was stolen sometime in the last 24 hours. The Singer sewing machine was valued at $269.99. According to the report, the employee believes all the sewing machines were there the day before. On Feb. 11 at approximately 6:50 p.m., police responded to the Old Navy in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the store officer who told police that four women had placed baby clothing in three different bags that they brought inside the store with them. Jewelry was stolen from a home on the 2400 block of West Chester Pike in Broomall.
BROOMALL–On Feb. 8 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Marple police responded to the 2400 block of West Chester Pike for a reported burglary. Upon arrival, police spoke with the resident who told police she found her rear/side door of the home kicked in and slightly ajar. According to the report, the woman checked her home and noticed jewelry stolen from her bedroom. The woman noticed a boot print on the kicked-in door of the home, acording to the report. In addition, the woman observed that the door handle lock and the deadbolt lock were both locked but had split the wood molding when the door was kicked in by the burglar. The woman told police the downstairs of the home appeared to be untouched and it appeared that only the bedroom was rummaged…

A handful of thefts have occurred at the Marple Walmart in February.
SPRINGFIELD–On Feb. 19 at approximately 11:40 a.m., Marple police responded to the Walmart in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a reported theft. According to the report, the store officer reported that she observed a woman walk into the store and proceed to the pet department. The woman then selected various items and went to the customer service counter to attempt to return the items. According to the report, the customer service representative refused the return item because the woman did not have the receipt. The woman then went back into the store and selected more items into a shopping cart. The woman then proceeded to a checkout register and paid for several gray plastic Totes. The man told police he only had two martinis at La Locanda in Edgmont before crashing into the Newtown Square Corporate Campus sign.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Jan. 24 at approximately 5:50 p.m., Newtown police responded to the area of West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 and Campus Boulevard for a report of a possible medical emergency. According to the report, a man was reported to be slumped over the wheel of a vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle facing southbound in the northbound exit of West Chester Pike. In addition, police immediately noticed the vehicle had front-end damage and appeared the vehicle struck the curb as well as the lights that illuminate the Newtown Square Corporate Campus sign. BROOMALL–On Feb. 12 at approximately 4:50 p.m., Marple police received a report from a resident on the 2900 block of Dogwood Lane about a possible burglary. The man reported that he was out of his home from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and arrived home only to discover items taken from the master bedroom. Police arrived to the scene and was told from the resident that the back door in the kitchen was locked when he left that afternoon but found it unlocked when he returned home. A 27-year-old Upper Darby man told police he had smoked marijuana just prior to driving.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Feb. 9 at approximately 10:10 p.m., Newtown police was facing east in the right lane of West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 at the intersection of Bryn Mawr Avenue behind a tan Buick. According to the report, the vehicle’s registration plate displayed a January 2013 registration, which police confirmed that the registration was indeed expired. Police activated their emergency lights for a traffic stop, and were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Rt. 3 and Barren Road. Shoe prints in the snow were observed at a resident's home on the morning of Jan. 28.
BROOMALL–On Jan. 31 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Marple resident on the unit block of North Sproul Road reported noticing shoe prints in the snow at his home’s side door on the morning of Jan. 28. According to the report, the man estimated the shoe print size to be about a size 11. The man went over to his neighbor’s home and noticed a window screen lying bent on the ground on the side, first-floor window of the home, according to the report. On Jan. 31, the man told Marple police received a phone notification about burglaries and asked his neighbor if they were aware of the bent window screen. A resident on Warren Blvd. in Broomall reported jewelry stolen from their home–the second time in a week.
BROOMALL–On Feb. 1 at approximately 1:10 p.m., Marple police responded to the 400 block of Warren Blvd. for a reported theft from a home. According to the report, this is the second time a theft from the home was reported. According to the report, one of the residents reported that at least four jewelry pieces were stolen from her bedroom. On Jan. 27, the resident’s mother reported a large amount of her jewelry missing from the master bedroom area of the home. Police cited a man driving around a van in Newtown Square for failing to have a registered driver's license and the discovery of a marijuana blunt inside the van.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Jan. 23 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Newtown police received information from an off-duty officer who reported a suspicious van driving around the upper Saint Albans neighborhood in Newtown Square. According to the report, the off-duty officer had arrested a person who was operating a van with All American Chimney on the side of the van approximately a year ago. The van that the off-duty officer observed on Jan. 23 had the same All American Chimney sign on the van, according to the report. Police were able to locate the van in the parking lot of the Newtown Square Wawa on North Newtown Street Road and had a New York registration plate. BROOMALL–On Jan. 22 at approximately 6:10 p.m., Marple police responded to the Walmart for a reported retail theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the loss prevention officer who told police she observed a woman go into the shoe department and put on a pair of shoes from the shelf and continued walking around the store. While she was walking around the store, the woman began eating several items from the shelves, passed all sales registers and failed to pay for those items. The woman was arrested and taken to Marple Police Station. A background check revealed the woman had three prior felony convictions for retail theft.
