Zip codes along the Main Line scored high on the top 100.

Villanova, Gladwyne and Merion Station top the Philadelphia Business Journal's list of the Greater Philadelphia Area's 100 wealthiest zip codes. The Journal's list comes courtesy of Esri, a geographic information provider. The site does not disclose its method for ranking the zip codes. 'The Philadelphia Story' Movie Inspiration: Go Inside Ardrossan Estate

Take a look inside the historic estate in Villanova that inspired the play and film The Philadelphia Story.

The famed Ardrossan Estate, built between 1911 and 1913, not only inspired the film The Philadelphia Story, but it is a part of Main Line history, and Main Line Today got a chance to go inside.  Col. Robert Leaming Montgomery and his wife, Charlotte Hope Binney (Tyler) Montgomery were the first occupants of the 50-room Georgian Revival home.  Col. Montgomery founded Janney Montgomery Scott LLC.  The home has an extensive art collection, including pieces by Thomas Sully, Gilbert Stuart, George Healy and Charles Willson Peale.  The 350 acre estate is the largest undeveloped piece of land in Radnor Township.  To read more from Main Line Today and to see the photo gallery, click here. Bottom Three Main Line Areas in Home Sales

See which municipalities performed the worst in home sales in the last six months compared to the same period last year around the Main Line.

We gave you the top three townships with increasing home sales in the area with Newtown Township among the list. Now view the bottom three. While the Main Line in a long-term view is one of the most stable submarkets of the Philadelphia region, it has been negatively affected by the economic downturn of the past five years. But the numbers are slowly inching back up. Note that in analyzing data on a township by township basis the numbers can “swing wildly” because one large transaction or the sell out of a new construction project can have a big impact on the small amount of transactions, said Steve Storti, senior vice president of marketing for Prudential Fox and Roach.
