Newtown Recap: Wyola School Up For Sale, $11K Worth of Used Autos Sold, And More

Newtown Township Board of Supervisors also amended the Apartment-Office zoning code, hired a bookkeeper for the Municipal Authority, approved to sponsor for a Marple Newtown Youth Rec Night.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At the March 26th Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Township Manager Mike Trio updated the Board on several items including revenues that are coming to the township. Trio stated that 51 building permits have been issued in the township over the last two weeks. In the past month, the construction value has totaled to approximately $630,000 and bringing in permit revenue of approximately $20,000 to the township. To date, the township has collected $2,360,996 in real estate taxes and $137,000 in Local Service Taxes from the fourth quarter of 2011, according to Trio, or about "55 percent of our total revenue expected for at face value." Sewer Rates Approved in Newtown, Update on 537 Plan and Municipal Authority

Newtown Board of Supervisors approved the 2012 SR-2 and SR-3 districts' sewer rates for the township as well as appointed a sanitary sewer enforcement officer and provided an update on an agreement being made with the township and Kelly & Close Engineers.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At a Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Feb. 13, supervisors unanimously approved the revised 2012 sewer rates for the SR-2 and SR-3 districts in the township. 2012 sewer fees and rates for the SR-2 district are as follows: 2012 sewer fees and rates for the SR-3 district are as follow: New Metering System Possible for 2013 According to Township Manager Mike Trio, Newtown is currently considering changing the possibility of using a separate deduction metering system, such as an irrigation system, on residents' properties and charging separately for that metering. Ashford Planning Module Gets Final Go-Ahead By Supervisors

Newtown Board of Supervisors approved the final draft of the Ashford cluster development plan for the Department of Environmental Protection's approval at a meeting on Sept. 26.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Rouse Group/Ashford Land Company sought final approval from the Newtown Board of Supervisors at a meeting on Monday evening for their Ashford cluster development planning module. The board unanimously approved the final draft of the 449-unit, sub-division cluster development of single-family homes located at the former John duPont estate and Biddle Farm off of Route 252/Newtown Street Road. The plan will now be sent to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for their approval. At a meeting in June, Tina Makoulian, a representative for The Rouse Group, said the plan was getting down to the fine details. Newtown Municipal Authority Appoints New Chairman

Newtown Township's Municipal Authority appointed a new chairman, while two new members filled vacant seats on the board, and a moment of silence was taken for the passing of former Chairman Bob Jackson at a meeting on Sept. 6.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–With just over two months since he's been appointed, newly appointed board member of Newtown Township's Municipal Authority Joseph Sweeney was given another hat to wear by the end of Tuesday evening's Municipal Authority meeting. Sweeney, who was appointed by the Board of Supervisors on June 27, was appointed by the board members of the Municipal Authority as the chairman of the board. Two new members also joined the board on Tuesday evening to fill the final two vacancies. Recently appointed members, also approved by the supervisors, Raymond Lopez, and former Municipal Authority member Jack DiPompeo sat on the board. Upper Providence Sells Sewer Capacity to Newtown Township

The township will sell 103,000 gallons of capacity that according to Upper Providence Township Engineer James Kelly, it will not need in the foreseeable future.

MEDIA–A resolution to sell 103,000 gallons of Upper Providence's sewer capacity to Newtown Township was passed unanimously last Thursday evening. "Newtown is in dire need of capacity," Upper Providence Township Engineer James Kelly said. "We feel comfortable that we can let them have that [capacity] because our measured flows are being reduced as we speak because with the new system we're putting in, we're well below the standard acceptable rates." Upper Providence Township has more than 400,000 gallons of capacity, Kelly said. The township will sell Newtown Township the 103,000 gallons of capacity at the rate Upper Providence paid for the capacity initially. Supervisors Fill Final Two Vacancies on Muni Authority

The Newtown Board of Supervisors appointed two members of the public to fill the last two seats on the Municipal Authority.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown supervisors approved the appointments of two candidates to fill the vacant seats on the township's Municipal Authority at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 9. Raymond Lopez, president of the Homeowner's Association of Springton Pointe Estates, and Jack DiPompeo, a former supervisor who served for six years on the board, were unanimously approved in a 3-0 vote (Supervisors Linda Houldin and George Wood were not present at Monday night's meeting) to fill the remaining empty seats of the Municipal Authority. Still Without a Chairman, Municipal Authority Discusses Township's Act 537 Plan

Newly appointed member Joseph Sweeney joined the few members left on the Municipal Authority at their meeting on Aug. 1.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township's Municipal Authority held its first meeting without former Chairman Bob Jackson and with a newly appointed member Joseph Sweeney on Aug. 1. Within a few days of each other, the Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of Sweeney to the Municipal Authority on June 27 and Jackson resigned as chairman on June 29. That currently still leaves the board with two vacant seats. Jackson Holds Separate Meeting For Sewers

Former Municipal Authority Chairman Bob Jackson invited residents in Newtown to attend his meeting on sewers on July 21.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–"I'm not here to criticize the township. I'm not here to grind any axe," stated former Newtown Municipal Authority Chairman Bob Jackson at the beginning of his meeting on July 21. "But the project that was ready to go has been short-circuited." The project Jackson referred to was the latest version of the Act 537 Plan involving two special studies for Echo Valley and Florida Park sewage plans. NEWTOWN SQUARE–In an email dated June 29 at 3:04 p.m., Newtown Township's Municipal Authority Chairman Bob Jackson stated his resignation from the Authority after two requests that were denied by the Board of Supervisors. In the email, Jackson requests that the supervisors move forward with two approvals: to convert the Newtown Township Municipal Authority to an operating authority and to agree to employ Jackson as a paid executive director of the Municipal Authority at a salary of $7,500 per month on a part-time basis.
