Newtown Police Sgt. Chris Lunn Promoted To Lieutenant

The Newtown Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the promotion of Sgt. Chris Lunn to Lieutenant at a supervisors meeting on Sept. 12 as well as announcing that the police contract has been officially finalized.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At a Newtown Board of Supervisors meeting on Sept. 12, a promotion was made for Newtown police Sgt. Chris Lunn effective immediately. Lunn was unanimously approved by the supervisors for the promotion to lieutenant on Newtown's police force. The supervisors had already approved the hiring of a second lieutenant on the police department. "I guess it was during the summer that we approved–subject to budget constraints–the position of a second lieutenant as outlined by the chief," explained Supervisors Chairman Joseph Catania. Updates on Act 537 Plan and Police Contract

Newtown's Board of Supervisors provided an update for the public on the status of the Act 537 Plan and police contract at a meeting on Aug. 8.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At the last Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 8, Newtown supervisors provided the public with a few updates on the comprehensive Act 537 Plan and police contract. Supervisors hire third-party engineer to review Act 537 Plan Newtown supervisors hired James MacCombie of MacCombie Engineering Services, also Marple Township's municipal engineer, to review the final draft of the township's Act 537 sewer plan for a rate not to exceed of $1,500 to $2,000. "We thought it necessary to have a clear vision from someone who hasn't been a part of the process," said Mike Trio, township manager, about hiring MacCombie as a third-peer reviewer. Supervisors Fill Final Two Vacancies on Muni Authority

The Newtown Board of Supervisors appointed two members of the public to fill the last two seats on the Municipal Authority.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown supervisors approved the appointments of two candidates to fill the vacant seats on the township's Municipal Authority at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 9. Raymond Lopez, president of the Homeowner's Association of Springton Pointe Estates, and Jack DiPompeo, a former supervisor who served for six years on the board, were unanimously approved in a 3-0 vote (Supervisors Linda Houldin and George Wood were not present at Monday night's meeting) to fill the remaining empty seats of the Municipal Authority. Newtown Police: Two Officers Officially Sworn In; Police, Supervisors Agree to New Contract

Newtown officers Dean Hodges and David Wilding were officially sworn in and the police contract was officially finalized on June 27.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Patrolman officers Dean Hodges and David Wilding were officially sworn in on Monday evening's Newtown Board of Supervisors meeting. Both Hodges and Wilding were hired by the township at a special Board of Supervisors reorganization meeting on June 1. Hodges was accompanied with his girlfriend Theresa Coughlin while Wilding was accompanied by his wife Samantha during the swearing in ceremony. Judge David Videon swore in both the officers. Both the officers hail from Yeadon's Police Department. Hodges started working with Newtown police immediately after his hire date on June 2, due to an officer retirement, while Wilding had a tentative start date for June 20. Marple Police: Awards Presentation, April's Incident Report and More

Among the awards presented at a May 2 Marple Board of Commissioners meeting, other items discussed included the monthly incident report, a new hire and an update on the police contract.

BROOMALL–It was a police-filled meeting on Monday evening at Marple Township's Board of Commissioners work session meeting May 2–from an awards presentation, honoring the good works of a handful of officers and citizens, to Marple Police Chief Tom Murray's monthly incident report, a brief update on the police contract with the township and a new hire. With nearly half the room clad in blue, a handful of officers were recognized for their service in 2010 at Monday's meeting. Det. Barry Williams was honored twice for two specific achievements last year. Newtown Police Contract Nearing to Finalized Deal With Township

Newtown police attended the March 14 Board of Supervisors meeting to push for a finalized signed contract with the township with a hiring of a new officer and changes to medical plan.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On behalf of the Newtown Police Department, Det. Joseph Vandegrift stood before the Newtown Board of Supervisors March 14 to "speed up the process" of finalizing their 2009-2011 police contract with the township. According to Vandegrift, officers have been without a signed contract for six years now but the negotiation process for the current contract began in 2009. "We're very frustrated because we're two-and-a-half years into a three-year contract that has not been signed yet," said Vandegrift. In addition, Vandegrift said the officers have not seen a raise in 14 months now and in 2010 and 2011 a pay raise freeze was implemented.
