Marple Newtown School Board Votes In New President

A reorganization meeting was held on Monday, Dec. 3, for the Marple Newtown School Board.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Marple Newtown School Board voted in a new president at Monday night's reorganization meeting. Four-year school board director Kathryn Chandless replaced the seat formerly occupied by David McGinley. McGinley has served as president of the Marple Newtown School Board for approximately six years. Chandless has served on the board as the chair of the Human Resources Committee last year. School Board Director Rob Sack made a motion to appoint Chandless for board presidency. Newtown Township's New Chairman Sees a Rough Year Ahead

George Wood was appointed to the chairman seat at a reorganization meeting Jan. 3 and shared his thoughts with what to expect in 2011 for Newtown.

Newtown Square–Former vice Chairman George Wood (R-5th District) was appointed Monday night to chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Newtown Township for 2011, while former Chairwoman Linda Houldin (R-6th District) was appointed to vice chairman. Although Wood commented that the board did a "good" job with the 2011 budget–a 9 percent increase in municipal taxes for 2011–he shared a grim picture may lie ahead for the township's future. "We're still negotiating through the perfect storm," said Wood. "There are three major landscape altering environment projects thrown in together with a major sewer installation litigation." New President With New Promises in 2011 For Marple Township

Michael Molinaro was appointed to president of the Board of Commissioners for 2011 and shared a preview of what to expect in the upcoming year.

Broomall–At Marple Township's reorganization meeting Monday, the Board of Commissioners appointed Michael Molinaro (R-6th District) and John Lucas (R-4th District) to the president and vice president seats, respectively, of the board for 2011. Molinaro will replace former president Daniel Leefson (R-7th District), while Lucas will take over Molinaro's former seat as vice president. Molinaro shared a preview of what he promised to hold the board accountable to. The list included reviewing the township's ordinances. "We want to make sure they're applicable to our daily lives," said Molinaro. "Some of our ordinances are quite archaic and they need some upgrading."
