Worrall Teacher Wins Music Educator Award

Larysa Dragonetti was recently awarded the 2013 Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award.

A Worrall Elementary School music teacher was recently honored with a Music Educator Award. "It is with great pride that I ask you to join me in congratulating Larysa Dragonetti for being awarded the 2013 Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award," Worrall Principal John Trezise says in an email message. Dragonetti, who teaches general music in grades kindergarten through fifth, has taught at the school for more than 14 years. Dragonetti was chosen from nearly 300 nominations representing 45 states and just 50 educators were honored with the award. Worrall Sends Relief Efforts to NY in Sandy's Aftermath

Gift cards and cleaning supplies were sent to the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Breezy Point, New York.

BROOMALL–Though some may have moved and recovered quickly from Hurricane Sandy, others are still living in the aftermath of Sandy's wrath. And Worrall Elementary School has not forgotton.  On Nov. 30, Worrall School Librarian Gerardine Palmer set up collection bins at the main office to send relief supplies and donations to the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Queens, New York. Palmer's daughter, Megan, also volunteered to deliver the donated items. According to Palmer, the donations were disbursed to residents of Breezy Point, New York, who are not expected to get power back on for another five months. "After Super Storm Sandy destroyed their homes, they were so thankful and overwhelmed by the generosity of our community," …

Worrall Students With Asperger's Report The News on PBS

Betty Ann Bowser of PBS reports on Worrall Elementary School's Asperger's class, where students broadcast their own local newscast called Action-7.

BROOMALL–PBS recently aired the Asperger's class of Worrall Elementary School, where students have the opportunity to "go live" on their own local newscast called Action-7. Betty Ann Bowser of PBS interviews Randi Rentz, Asperger's syndrome specialist at Worrall, and Kristin Dercole, speech and language pathologist at the school, about the class's special year-long project. According to Help for Asperger's, the year-long project is designed to develop expressive language, written language, social and life skills, non-verbal body language, pragmatic skills and the hidden curriculum. All of these skills are worked on during the school year and used to increase the self-esteem of the students with this specific disability, according to Help …

Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do. Meet this Worrall teacher, who has a passion for music and teaching music. According to Worrall Principal John Trezise: Regardless of being an outstanding music teacher who inspires the love of music and dance in all of her students, she is an active member of our Building Leadership Team (BLT) and spearheads numerous school improvement initiatives in that capacity. Peace Prevailed in Marple Newtown

A Peace Pole was planted at Worrall Elementary School on Sept. 11 and five more will be planted at every school in the district.

BROOMALL–Community diversity and peace prevailed at Worrall Elementary School on Sept. 11. The Worrall community gathered on the playground at the new nature garden planted for a Peace Pole ceremony in respect of 9/11. According to Toni Himes, supervisor of Language Arts, Reading & Federal Programs in the Marple Newtown School District, the Peace Pole project is a way of promoting a positive culture in Marple Newtown schools. A Peace Pole is a handcrafted monument that displays the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages. According to Himes, there are now 200,000 Peace Poles in over 180 countries and displayed on all continents. The project began in Japan in 1955.   "We plan to have one at each school," said Himes. $31K Donated to MNSD Schools

A total donation of $31,000 was donated to a few schools in the Marple Newtown School District.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Marple Newtown School Board of Directors happily accepted several thousands of dollars worth of donations to schools in the district at a school board meeting on Aug. 28. The amount of donations totals to $31,000. Here's the breakdown of each donation and which schools will receive the donations.

Worrall Builds 'Mother Nature's Nook' From Grant

Worrall Elementary School recently built an outdoor garden with the help of a grant.

BROOMALL–On Aug. 15th, a group of Worrall Elementary School staff worked on a project called Mother Nature's Nook. The project entails an outdoor garden project that was made possible by a grant music teacher Larysa Dragonetti had applied for and was awarded. Last year, Worrall also received a $5,000 grant under the Lowe's Toolbox For Education program

When's The First Day of School For Marple Newtown?

Find out when students in the Marple Newtown School District have to go back to school and other important dates to jot down.

Don't tell the kids, but summer is more than half over. So make sure you pencil in these back-to-school dates. Students in the Marple Newtown School District head back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 4. All six schools in the MNSD begin on this date. Those schools include Culbertson, Loomis, Russell and Worrall elementary schools, Paxon Hollow Middle School and Marple Newtown High School. Worrall's Bedhead Contest Winners

Winners of Worrall Elemetary School's Bedhead Contest.

BROOMALL–For the first time, students from Worrall Elementary School didn't have to comb or brush their hair before going to school. The above photos are the winners of the Bedhead Contest judged by visiting author Margie Palatini during her visit to Worrall Elementary School. The winner of the contest was Noah McIntire. Runner-ups were Joseph Verrekia, Larry Besa, Mackenzie Smith, Ilya Kenny, and Cecilia Doherty.
