On the article Part 3: MNSD Community Budget Committee's Activity Fees Recommendations
Ezzie Klein

ReplyMr Lanzalotto - When other non school organizations have participation fees, the fees stays with that organization. At MNHS you pay the $75 activity fee and then each club/team/etc that your child is involved with has another fee. Where does the $75 go- to the general fund? Rumor is that it doesn't trickle down to the various teams/clubs. And yes the Band parents were a great fundraising machine - maybe years ago, but economic times are harder and fundraising is not as easy as it used to be. Years ago the Band was the only group out there soliciting donations, now every booster club is hitting up the community for donations. And when it snowed on Bandarama 2011 this year (band's biggest fundraiser) cancelling the event, it put a big financial burden on the Band Parents Association to continue to support the fine music program at the high school. PTO Fundraising is great at the Elementary level but a lot of parents go back to work when their children go to middle school and high school. There is less PTO fundraising at the upper schools. PTO membership at MNHS is down because people are getting hit up with so many fees at the beginning of the school year that they don't want to pay an extra $30 to join the PTO.
