Ellen Trantas - Marple Newtown School Board Candidate

Candidate for School Director asks for your vote on May 21st.

My name is Ellen Trantas and I am a candidate for the Marple Newtown School Board.  I believe that there is a direct link between the health of our schools and the health of our neighborhoods.  I want to serve on the School Board to re-focus our efforts and develop a comprehensive academic plan to improve student achievement and the reputation of our schools.

I have deep roots in the area, living in Broomall for the past eighteen years, and growing up in neighboring Springfield.  My husband and I have two children.  Our daughter is in fifth grade at Russell Elementary and will be moving up to Paxon Hollow Middle School.  Our son is a first grader at Russell.  My family is active in St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall.  I volunteer as Russell’s Parent-Teacher Organization representative to the School Board.  I also serve as a homeroom parent and support my children’s various activities, including music and sports.

I have spent my career working in Development at several higher education institutions, and I am currently at Bryn Mawr College.  In my role, I analyze business processes, finding ways to work more efficiently and get better results.

Volunteering as the PTO representative to the School Board, I have attended Board meetings regularly for the past three years and I have learned a lot about our school district.  I see great opportunity to enhance the curriculum and strengthen achievement.

I love living in this community and I want to see Marple Newtown thrive.  The reputation of the public schools is critical to how people view Marple Newtown.  When deciding whether or not to live here, people check on the quality of the schools.  Better schools will attract more people to Marple Newtown and are a great asset to increase our property values.  We have wonderful students, families, and teachers.  With renewed focus and collaboration, we can develop a long range plan that will improve achievement.  To me, this is a recipe for a successful school district.

I ask for your vote on May 21st.  If elected, I will bring a balanced, strategic approach to tackling the challenges facing our schools.  With the support of parents, educators, and all residents of our community, I see a bright future for Marple Newtown students and for the neighborhoods of Broomall and Newtown Square.

Thank you and please vote on May 21!
