Ex-Coach at Delco Christian Charged with Sex Assault of Player

The 27-year-old West Chester resident allegedly had a sexual relationship with the student for several years, the Delaware County Daily Times reports.

A former softball coach at Delaware County Christian School has been charged in connection with having a sexual relationship with a former student, the Delaware County Daily Times reported.

Lana Trotter, 27, of West Chester, was charged with two counts of felony institutional sexual assault and two counts of corruption of minors, according to court documents.

Trotter allegedly had a sexual relationship with one of her former players for several years, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

In early July, the parents of the former student informed school administration and Newtown Township police of a suspected inappropriate relationship between their child and Trotter, who was a part-time high school employee, DCCS Head of School Dr. Timothy P. Wiens said in a letter.

"Newtown police launched an investigation and directed the school administration not to share this information with the DCCS community prior to formal charges being filed, so as not to compromise their investigation," Wiens stated in a letter.

However, DCCS administration has worked closely with police during the investigation as well as conducted its own internal investigation, Wiens stated in a letter.

Trotter turned herself in to authorities on Thursday and was released after posting 10 percent of her $50,000 bail, according to court documents.

Wiens asked that all questions and concerns from the DCCS community be directed to him as board members, administration, faculty, and staff are not at liberty to discuss the matter.

"DCCS is intent on protecting the privacy of the student and family to the best of our ability, despite the public nature of the situation," Wiens stated in a letter.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19.
