National Night Out Against Crime Set For Aug. 6

In Marple Township, the celebration takes place at Broomall Fire Co.

National Night Out, a night to promote police-community partnerships to help prevent crime, will take place on Aug. 6.

In Marple Township, the celebration takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Broomall Fire Co., at 10 N. Malin Road.

The purpose of National Night Out, started in 1984, is to build relationships with police and heighten awareness against crime. It has grown from 2.5 million participants in 23 states to 37 million in all states, according to the National Night Out website

Marple Township neighbors and police will enjoy food, music from B101, emergency equipment displays, Philadelphia Eagles' Swoop, a moonbounce and an inflatable, 40-foot obstacle course at Tuesday's event.

Marple Police Sgt. Tony Colgan said this will be the second time the township has participated in National Night Out and last year's event was a giant success with about 500 people in attendance.

The fire house as well as the field across the street will be utilized with Fire Police directing traffic to help pedestrians to cross. Parking will be on the field side, Colgan said.

The PA Masonic CHIP Program will also be available, free of charge, to parents. The Child Identification Program, includes fingerprinting, a DNA kit and photo and video, to be used in case of an emergency or if your child were to go missing.

Local businesses and companies will also be in attendance and any other business or organization that would like to participate, contact Colgan at 484-427-8149 or tcolgan@marplepolice.com

Head out to National Night Out and send a message to criminals that Marple residents are committed to keeping the township safe.
