Resident Spots Burglar Climbing through Window

A would-be burglar ran away after a resident found him crawling through a window, police say.

A Marple Township resident walked in to her kitchen and found a burglar attempting to climb through the window recently, according to Marple Township Police.

On May 29 at about 10:40 a.m. on the unit block of Fairview Road in Broomall, a resident told police she heard someone knock on her front door two separate times in succession but she believed it to be a solicitor so she did not bother to answer the door, according to police.

Moments later, as she was walking to the bathroom she looked in her kitchen and saw a man inside her house getting to his feet, with his hands still on the ground after just coming in through a side window of the house near Malin Road, according to police.

The woman yelled at the man, "What are you doing?" and he replied, "I thought it was my friend Joe’s house. …I knocked like 10 times and nobody answered," according to police.

The woman yelled at the man to get out and he exited head first through the same window, according to police.

The burglar was described as a white, skinny man about 6 feet tall, wearing a white baseball hat and white shirt and silver or white basketball shorts, according to police, and he was last seen walking down Fairview toward N. Malin Road.

The woman dialed 911 and Marple and Newtown Police and K9 units arrived within two minutes and searched the area, according to police.

Dogs tracked a scent into the woods between St. Luke’s Church and the playground onto Bonsall Avenue and tracked to and along a creek ravine then through the woods up into Marple Newtown Swim Club parking lot but then the dogs lost the scent, according to police.

No further information was available.
