Madaleen Ellis Scholarship Winner: Bronwyn Livezey

From age 5, Bronwyn Livezey has been giving back to the community. She is the winner of the 2013 Madaleen Ellis Scholarship.

The Newtown Square Historical Society is proud to announce the winner of the 2013 Madaleen Ellis Scholarship: Bronwyn Livezey of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

The Madaleen Ellis Scholarship is named for long time community resident and former president of the Society, Madaleen Ellis, who remembered the Society in her will with a generous bequest to continue to do good in the community.  As she remembered us, we remember her and honor her, with an annual scholarship of $500 given to a deserving student in the community.

This year's winner has been involved in our annual school tours at the Paper Mill House since age 5.  At age 15, she joined our Society’s board of directors as co-chair of our Education Committee. Now age 18 and heading off to college, in addition to serving on the Board, she continues to assist in organizing the annual school tours, she has been involved at our Historic Newtown Square Day celebrations, she guides on summer weekends at our historic sites; and she has played music at many of our social functions - with others and solo. If you have been to any of our events over the last ten years, Bronwyn Livezey has played a part in them.

In addition to her work with the Newtown Square Historical Society, Brownyn has been a summer intern at Rushton Farm Preserve, the 1st Violinist in the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra, a Phi Theta Kappa member, violin teacher, and sheep breeder.  She plans to attend West Chester University in the fall, where she will study violin performance.

As a home schooled student, in her senior year, Bronwyn does not have that moment in the sun that comes with receiving her high school degree at a graduation ceremony in front of an appreciative community audience.  She would be a superstar in any local high school, and we who have known her and seen her mature in her time with the Historical Society, are as proud of her as her parents and family are.  She is the epitome of community involvement. We wish her every success in what is sure to be a bright future.
