Soup's On at Newtown Square Farmers Market

The PRC Farmers' Market runs every Wednesday through the end of December and as the temperature drops, you can pick up some soup or chili.

This week at the PRC Newtown Square Farmers' Market, soup's on.

The PRC Farmers' Market runs every Wednesday through the end of December and this week you can find Mini Treats. Before you head out to the farmers market, located at Mostardi Nursery, see what Mini Treats has to offer.

Name:
Lauren Cuskey and Chef John Wilson, of Havertown

Business: Mini Treats

Business Location: West Chester at Artisan Exchange

When Did you Get Started: 2008

How Long at Farmers Market:
One month

What is Mini Treats:
We sell homemade soups, chili, pasta sauces and small chocolate puddings or chef calls them "pud de cremes."

The soups are complex, they aren't your mother's soups. It's the real deal, no preservatives, everything is local, it's real food. It's nice to know what your eating. We make a lot of soup at one time. The mushroom soup, for example, has spices, cream, milk, carrots, soy sauce and hot sauce in it and he uses several different types of mushrooms, which are locally grown. It's not just a cream based type of soup, it's like "wow," just even smelling it.

How Did you Get Started:
John came up with the name initially because he was making the small pud de cremes and then he really started getting into the soups and they took off.

What's in Season:

Mushroom soup and asparagus soup. But you never know, sometimes he'll do a squash soup.

Most Popular Item:
Red wine turkey bacon chili and the red wine beef and bacon chili. Right now, with it being cold, people love chili.

Why Bring Your Goods Here:
We thought it would be a good fit. With West Chester Pike right here, we thought we'd get a lot of traffic from surrounding businesses. It's convenient to stop and grab some dinner.

Best Part of Farmers Market:
I would say the Mostardi staff is wonderful. They are really accommodating to the vendors and the customers who come in. It makes a nice environment.

Shameless Plug:
We're at the Artisan Exchange in West Chester and the Lansdowne and East Goshen farmers markets
